Community-Based Experiential Learning

The Hartman Center for Civic Engagement connects 溏心vlog免费B站 students, faculty, campus organizations, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for civic learning, community engagement, and leadership. Through community-based experiential learning, collaborative partnerships, and student-led initiatives, the Center helps students connect their academic and personal interests with the needs and opportunities of communities beyond the classroom.

The Center works to strengthen relationships between 溏心vlog免费B站 and the broader community while creating opportunities for students to learn, contribute, and develop as engaged members of their communities. Our work includes supporting student leadership, connecting students with community partners, collaborating with faculty and campus colleagues, and creating opportunities for students across 溏心vlog免费B站 to participate in community and civic engagement.

Our Approach to Community Engagement

The Hartman Center approaches community engagement as a form of learning, relationship-building, and shared responsibility. We seek to create experiences that are meaningful for students and responsive to community priorities. Through our work, students have opportunities to:

  • Connect their academic interests, skills, and personal values with meaningful community engagement.
  • Develop leadership, professional, and interpersonal skills through authentic experiences with community partners.
  • Build reciprocal relationships with community organizations and contribute to community-identified priorities.
  • Reflect on their experiences and develop a deeper understanding of communities, perspectives, and systems.
  • Recognize their capacity to participate in and contribute to the civic life of their communities and beyond.

Programs & Initiatives

The Hartman Center supports a variety of programs, initiatives, and collaborations that connect 溏心vlog免费B站 with Greencastle and Putnam County, including

  • Bonner Scholar Program, 溏心vlog免费B站's signature four-year community engagement and leadership program.
  • Civic Fellows, a student organization focused on civic engagement and leadership.
  • Community Engagement Opportunities, connecting students with nonprofit and public-sector organizations through GivePulse and other initiatives.
  • Campus Collaborations, including the Ethics, Civic, and Leadership First-Year Cohort and Little 5
  • Community Partnerships, working with local organizations to create meaningful opportunities for students and respond to community-identified priorities.
